Heal Pain
Heel pain is extremely common and may be due to a variety of causes. The commonest cause is Plantar Fasciitis: a condition involving the thick band-like structure under the foot. The typical description is of pain under the heel, usually worse after a period of resting, the first few steps being the most painful, and easing off after a period of walking.
It may be considered a lifestyle disease, associated with obesity, poor diet, Diabetes and other conditions. The treatment is not surgical. Plantar fascia stretching exercises are the key to getting better. These must be performed regularly throughout the day and every day to get the maximum benefit. Some exercises include standing on toes, pulling the big toe upwards, crumpling a piece of paper with the toes repeatedly, rolling a golf ball or squash ball under the heel, and many others which are best demonstrated.
